Comparison between Congress and BJP

Congress vs BJP

India is a Democratic country with a parliamentary form of Government. There three leading National Political Party in India. They are The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC) and Communist Party of India (CPI). In Today’s Politics India is witnessing rift between two major Political Party BJP and INC. Both of them doing every possible thing to have superiority on others. Every election across the nation is generally Congress vs BJP.

Indian National Congress

The Indian National Congress(INC) got established in 1885. It became the first modern nationalist movement to emerge in Asia and Africa. Congress-led India to independence from Britain. After the Independence of India in 1947, Congress formed the central government of India and in many regional states of India. Since Independence Congress Party headed the central government of India for 49 years. Seven Prime Ministers of India are from Congress Party. In 1977 India got their first non-congress Prime Minister in face of Moraji Desai. In 1977, the famous anti-corruption movement was being led by Moraji Desai. For the first time led to the landslide victory of the Janta alliance in March 1977. It gave India its first non-congress PM. In 1980 Indira Gandhi again became the Prime Minister. She became PM with Congress getting a Land Slide Victory. Later after the assassination of Indira Gandhi Rajiv Gandhi took command. He became the Congress President and prime minister of India.
Congress then saw its worst defeat since its independence in 1996. Their reduction was to 140 seats in Lok Sabha. After this, in 2014 Congress saw a defeat worse than that of 1996. The got reduced to only 44 seats followed by only 52 seats in 2019 election.

Bhartiya Janta Party

BJP got established in 1980 by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani. It has a close ideological and organizational link to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After 1977’s State of Emergency Bhartiya Jana Sangh merged. They came along with several other parties to form the Janata Party. They defeated INC in 1977 general Election. After three years in power, the Janata Party got dissolved in 1980. Its members of Jana Sangha reconvened to form BJP. In 1984’s general election the BJP managed to get only 2 seats. With the help of the Ram Janma Bhoomi movement, the BJP became the largest political party in the parliament in 1996. It was due to a lack of majority in lower houses of parliament that its government lasted only 13 days. After the 1998 general Election, the BJP led a coalition. They named it the National Democratic Alliance(NDA). It was under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He formed a government lasting for a month. It followed fresh elections again headed by Atal Bihari
Vajpayee which he won. It lasted for its full term. In 2014 Narendra Modi led BJP to its biggest Lanslide victory. It was in 2014 followed by another landslide victory in 2019.

 



BJP VS Congress

BJP and Congress both are the arch political rivals. They have been since 1980 when the BJP formed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. They do not leave a single opportunity to prove the actions of each other wrong. While Congress is often blamed for the condition of India. They also get blamed for the United Nation incident. The former Prime Minister refused to accept the UN’s permanent membership. It was due to a treaty with the Republic of China. A treaty which China later broke to get the UN’s Permanent Membership. Congress Party is
also blamed for the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan. It’s cause believed to be the wrong decisions of former Prime Minister.

BJP often gets accused of being a party unfavorable to Muslims. The present NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets accused of being partial to Hindus and neglecting the rights of Muslims. BJP is also often accused of being as corrupt as the Congress. Although they still seem clean when compared to Congress. It is because of the various corruption scandals during the Congress Government.

For now, In ideological war of Congress vs BJP, BJP seems to end the dynastical rule of Congress. It promises to bring good days. Their election campaign work in the previous term made them keep people’s support. It resulted in a Landslide victory in 2019 general Elections. It restricted Congress to only 52 seats. Also, the face of the INC, Rahul Gandhi is often seen as a comic figure in the nation because of his immature actions.
