Ram Vilas Paswan , Indian Politician from Bihar. Founder & President of Lok Janshakti Party. Currently, serving as Union Minister of Cabinet Affairs. He is cabinet minister in Narendra Modi Government . Previously, served as Member of Rajya Sabha. He was Chosen from Hajipur constituency consecutively from 1980-2014. He was arrested during emergency for speaking against Government. Surprisingly, Ramvilas Paswan was part of all National Coalitions forming Government from 1996-2015.

Early Life

Ram Vilas Paswan was born on 5 July, 1946. Born in Khagaria, Bihar, British India. He belongs to a Dalit Family. He’s Brother died due to heart Attack recently.

Education

Graduated in Bachelor’s of Law from Kosi College, Pilkhi. Completed his Masters of Arts from Patna University.

Political Career

Paswan Started his political career as Member of Sanyukta Socialist Party. For the first time in 1969 he was elected as MLA for Bihar Legislative Assembly. But, Joined Lok Dal after its formation in 1974. And, He was
appointed as General Secretary of Lok Dal.

Ministries Held

After, release from arrest during emergency he joined Janata Party. Thereafter, won Lokshabha election with world record Majority.

Ramvilas was elected to 9 Loksabha & appointed as Union Minister of Labour & Welfare. From 1996-98 he served as Railway Minister. Further, he served as Union Communication Minister & Coal Minister Portfolios.



LJP

In 2000, he formed LJP and became its Founding President. Following, which he joined UPA & appointed as Minister of Chemical & Fertilizer & Steel. In 2005, Bihar Election INC-LJP contested election together but
couldn’t form Government. Later, in 2009 LJP formed coalition with SP & Lost election from Hajipur.

Narendra Modi Cabinet

He was Elected to 16 Lokshabha form Hajipur. Chirag Paswan, his son was elected from Jamui Constituency. Ramvilas Paswan was given charge of Consumer Affairs , Food & Public Distribution in 2014 & 2019.
