Shivraj Singh Chouhan - Biography

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Indian Politician. Member of BJP. Former CM of Madhya Pradesh, from 2005-08. Currently MLA of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He is 5-time Member of Parliament from Vidisha. He also served as General Secretary of BJP. He is popularly referred as MAMA in Madhya Pradesh.

Early Life

Shivraj Singh Chouhan was born on 5 March 1959. Born in Budhni, Madhya Pradesh. His Father, Prem Singh Chouhan. He belongs to Kirar Community. He’s wife is Sadhna Singh.


He is Gold Medalist in M.A. (philosophy) from Barkatullah University. And, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is Agriculturist by profession.

Political Career

Initial Phase

He joined ABVP in 1972. Then, elected president of Model School Student Union in 1975. In fact, Shivraj went to Jail during Emergency. Actually, he Participated in underground movements against emergency. Thereby, he was the convener of ABVP from 1991-92.

Member of Parliament

Shivraj Singh Chouhan was elected MP from Budhuni constituency. And, became MP for the first time in 10 Lokshabha. Hence, served as Member of Various Parliamentary Committees. In 1997-98 , he was appointed as General Secretary of BJP. Furthermore, he served as MP in 11, 12, 13 & 14 Lokshabha. Therefore, he became National President of BJYM. Soon, Shivraj Singh Chouhan became National Secretary of BJP.

CM of Madhya Pradesh 

After, BJP came to power in 2005 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election. As Madhya Pradesh BJP president, Shivraj Singh Chouhan was chosen as CM. Thereafter, he won by-election in Budhuni assembly constituency. Indeed, he served as CM from 2005 till 2018.


Chouhan was awarded Suryoday Manavta Seva Samman, With a prize of ₹1.11 lakh. For bringing changes in lives of Common people, poor & downtrodden.

What we can learn from Shivraj Singh Chouhan

1. Honest & Intolerant to Corruption. Shivraj himself disclosed Vyapam Scam in front of world.
2. Loved by people. He is most popular Politician of Madhya Pradesh. In extreme incumbency, He retained his seat. Also, BJP votes share differed only 5%. Even after losing CM post, still people visit him.
3. Concern for Environment. He did a walkathon for saving Narmada River.
4. Women’s at Priority. He brought some great schemes for girl child, Women’s.
